Balıkesir University Faculty of Tourism was established in 1975 under Law No. 1438 as the Balıkesir College of Business Administration and Tourism, affiliated with the Bursa Academy of Economic and Commercial Sciences. In 1982, with the enactment of Law No. 2547, the name and status of the college were changed, and it continued its education under the Faculty of Engineering of Uludağ University as the Balıkesir College of Tourism Management and Hotel Management. Later, in 1992, with the establishment of Balıkesir University under Law No. 3837, the college was incorporated into Balıkesir University and renamed the Balıkesir University College of Tourism Management and Hotel Management. Subsequently, with the decision published in the Official Gazette on April 25, 2013 (Decree No. 2013/4459), the college was closed and replaced by the Balıkesir University Faculty of Tourism. The Faculty currently offers education in the Departments of Tourism Management, Tourism Guidance, Gastronomy and Culinary Arts, and Recreation Management.

With a distinguished 50-year history in tourism education, a contemporary learning environment, and a strong academic staff, Balıkesir University Faculty of Tourism has become synonymous with tourism education in Türkiye. The Faculty not only defined the essence of tourism management in the country but also continues to keep this definition up to date, offering students modern educational environments and preparing them to compete both nationally and internationally. As part of a public university, the Faculty is one of the most dynamic institutions in the tourism sector, with over 9,000 graduates contributing to the industry.
